In continuation with the previous write-up on Résumé Writing, here are a few more tips that will go a long way in the placement procedure.
- Email address should be carefully selected so that it can be easily associated with your name and is easy to use.
- Five things about your personality can be discerned from your email address.
- The ‘Objective’ in a Résumé is the tagline of the advertisement. It should be juicy but true. A strong Objective always has three parts: Relevant Skill, Contribution, and Expectation.
- Freshers should include ‘Transferable Skills’ in their Résumés.
- From playing Chess, Logical Reasoning and Planning Skills can be derived. From participating in Dance Competitions, Creativity, Synchronisation and Physical Stamina can be derived. From NCC, Leadership Skills, Team Building Skills, Management, and Organisational Skills can be derived.
- Do not put an assumption on a Résumé without evidence. You say,” I’m Superman.” I say, “Show me how you fly!” Only put those strengths for which you have certificates of achievement or participation.
- Academic Scores preferably should not be mentioned in a Résumé.
- List out the Other Relevant Information properly. Use ‘Date of Birth’ in place of DOB or Age. Use the correct format for writing the age. Use ‘Other Interests’ in place of Hobbies or Pastime Activities.
- Careful analysis should be carried out to inculcate in yourself and to portray in your Résumé, ‘Other Interests’. These activities speak volumes about your personality.
- It is always preferable to put ‘Languages Spoken’ as opposed to Languages Known in a Résumé because there are 4 skills associated to gauge your proficiency in a language. Too many unnecessary words rob the Résumé of its mandatory brevity.
- The ‘Declaration’ is a single sentence and is required in a Résumé despite self-attestation because the Résumé is written in the third person.
- The’ Date’ and ‘Place’ in a Résumé is for the day that you appear for an interview and the place that you are residing in and not the place where you are taking the interview.
- The ‘Footer’ in a Résumé is always left empty. There should be no page number or PTO anywhere on the Footer, even if your Résumé spills over to the next sheet.
- A spill-over of a Résumé should always be avoided. However, if it cannot be managed then, you can use an only one-fouth portion of the Main Body of the next sheet of the Résumé.
- In case of a spill-over, do not write on the reverse side of the first sheet, use the second sheet.
- If there is a second sheet in the Résumé, then the Header and the Footer should be marked out as separate sections of the sheet. Do not repeat the information in the Header section of the first sheet on the second sheet of the Résumé.
- Let your Résumé have relevant and leading threads for questions to be asked during your Personal interview
